After a long day of work one expects a small cold dry wine in a confronting environment NO This place charges £9 unapologetically for warm wine( fridge is broken) after the wine is served 10 minutes to get to this place and only 15 min before I have to get tube, awful service what is the point of this place A pub should be comforting Great location what a waste of beautiful British history NEW MANAGEMENT NEEDED MARCH 2025 STAFF ARE AWFUL STAY AWAY

Great propper pub off the beat track and east to miss from the main road. Only had drinks and served Marlborough NZ white wine.

The Indian waiter does not want to work. He does not turn around even though you shout, your order comes wrong and he still does not care. The food is bad.

We were looking for a place to have some beers and have a plate of fish and chips. Don't look much further. This place is everything you are looking for. Especially Hayley. She was lovely hostess.

This is an excellent pub and well worth a visit. I went there last night with four friends visiting from the US and we all had a good time. Lovely, warm, welcoming decor, good range of food and drink and top-class service. Hayley, in particular, was pleasant, helpful, friendly and efficient and a great asset to the pub.

Very poor as a hahaha 😆 😂 advertising Sunday lunch menus that came to the table at 2.20 pm by a tall lad with glasses on freezing cold conditions with no heat on everyone complaining however Sunday lunch came out Savoy cabbage solid meat raw and excuses excuses from staff 😉 but as a or was a frequent visitor not anymore. Staff 2/10 for poor service and reliability. Goodbye

Let me start off with the good news which was the food. I loved it. Their fries were delicious and my partner enjoyed it. I had ordered the steak sandwich. I’ve never really tried steak inside a sandwich before and I’m glad that I did cause it was pretty good. At least in my opinion! My partner ordered the Chicken BLT and he said it was decent enough. So overall, the foods pretty good. Now for the part which affected our ability to enjoy the food for the most part: their service towards us. We came to the pub without any reservation and when we asked the staff if we could sit in any of the seats, they were completely fine with it and asked us to vacate before the people who reserved the seats come. We were fine with that as we wanted to have a quick lunch. Upon sitting at a table, we were asked not to sit at that table as ONLY 4 or more people can sit over there. That sign was mentioned on the table as well ( we didn’t notice that and they were sweet to show that). Okay they have a certain policy, cool. We move to a shorter table only to notice three people (white folks) coming inside who also didn’t have a reservation sitting over there and they were served at that table. We were shocked. Is it cause we were brown? We were confused. Like why? The lady who had asked us to move from that table was blonde. She seemed quite rude to my partner and she was taking orders on a Saturday afternoon (1st Feb) at around 2pm ( idk how much more I can describe her) We would really appreciate it if the staff is communicated with this behaviour. We know how tiring work can be especially during the weekends. But kindly don’t take that out on us. With love, Jennie

I caught up with a friend last week and we called into The Friend in Hand. We had a lovely, friendly welcome and were shown to our table. Our host was amazing. We chose tapas and it was stunning. Prices were very reasonable and quality outstanding. We spent an afternoon chatting and catching up in this cosy, friendly pub. Thank you for making our afternoon so extra special.

Es un hermoso pub! La cocina cierra a eso de las 9 pm. Yo como turista Argentina, acostumbrada a cenar a eso de las 10/11 pm fui a eso de las 9 y media de la noche y me avisaron en la barra que solo me podían servir para tomar. Asi que me pedí una pinta que me costó aproximadamente 6 libras. Luego, fui a cenar otro día donde me pedí un excelente fish and chips. Es un pub donde van locales, no hay muchos turistas.
